Update March 2021

Hi, thanks for taking the time to read our missionary update!

Hi, thanks for taking the time to read our missionary update March 2021!

Joyfully on the rebound

At the end of February:

  1. We went up to Piedra Ancha
  2. We opened up our Feeding Program in El Rejon.

PIEDRA ANCHA

All through the pandemic, we have been sending finances to this community to feed the 100 kids up there a wholesome snack through our coordinator. Due to the Covid restrictions, we haven’t been up there for over a year.  Upon arriving, the kids gave us such a moving and inspiring welcome.

  • We realized as we assessed our investment in these kids that they live hungry. These kids have no access to milk, meat, fruit, cookies and other such foods. To make a long story short… we doubled their finances to buy more.
  • Since the coordinator has to walk down 2 ½ hours of rough road with his horses and then take a bus to the nearest town…  he has arranged that parents of the kids meet him at the base of the mountain to help carry up the food.  Something else that amazed me was that when the children eat something hot, the     coordinator requires that each child bring one piece of firewood since that’s how they cook up there.
An amazing place

OUR FEEDING PROGRAM EL REJÓN

After a year of waiting month by month to reopen, we were given a very warm welcome back from the Town Council.  Our program is a little strange because our distribution of each plate of food is ‘take out’. The kids wait outside our property, forming a social distance line of at least half the length of a football field.  The personal contact is not the same but the love for these kids is.

  • During the last 3 weeks we are averaging about 375 to 400 kids each Thursday.
  • We are using 90 pounds of chicken per feeding, which we decided is not enough.
  • We are recuperating the help for this program from our youth club that disappeared when the country closed down.

AND TO CONCLUDE THIS UPDATE…

We have started to replace one of the roofs in our ministry installation in Santiago.

In conclusion

As it is with everybody, we personally have some very challenging times ahead of us.

Thank you for praying for us and thank you for sharing your finances with us and our work in Guatemala.

God bless you!
